To enter Canada as an international student, students must have either a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), depending on their country of citizenship. The TRV or eTA does not permit students to attend school in Nova Scotia unless they are studying for less than six months, in which case a study permit is not required. Any other student intending to study in Nova Scotia for more than six months must also hold a study permit.
A temporary resident visa (TRV), also known as a “visitor visa” or “entry visa,” is an official counterfoil document issued by a visa office that is placed in a person’s passport to show that they have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident.
KW Edu will request documentation from the NSISP upon confirmation of a student's return to the program to assist with his/her application for a TRV renewal. This documentation may include a Letter of Acceptance, invoice, receipt, and custodianship (if requested).
Though the NSISP will provide documentation if requested, the student's final responsibility for TRV renewal remains. The NSISP does not accept responsibility for problems that may occur with this process. The NSISP will not supply documentation for any student not intending to return to the NSISP during the TRV renewal process.
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt students traveling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to a student’s passport and is valid for up to five years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If the student gets a new passport, they must get a new eTA.
