Participating in an international exchange program is a big step for our students. To help answer questions, alleviate anxiety, and increase students' language skills, the NSISP provides your students with a Pre-Arrival Learning program delivered by Vital English.
A few months before arrival, students will be sent a link to an online English Placement Test. The test takes a maximum of 30 minutes, and no preparation is required; its only purpose is to determine how we can best support our student(s). The Placement Test should be completed within 7 days of receiving the link.
An online Orientation covers information from what to pack, going through Immigration in Canada, and how to get on with their homestay family to academic expectations, mental health, and Canadian food. It has nine chapters and takes about three hours to complete. Students have 15 days to complete the Orientation.
NSISP students identified as having low-level English are eligible to participate in our virtual EAL program. Students take part in one-hour EAL classes twice per week. In addition, students have the option to participate in one-on-one support with their teacher through their office hours. The EAL classes focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing lessons and assignments.
