Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is located in central Nova Scotia and serves 139 schools and 49,000 students in 13 rural and urban districts. Geographically, it is the smallest board in the province but is also the most densely populated. Imagine the vivacity of city living, the charms of small-town life, and the pristine beauty of nature—all in one place.

Most international students living with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education are often placed with families outside the downtown core. Host families are in regional suburbs, including Dartmouth, Timberlea, Eastern Passage, Tantallon, Lower Sackville, and Clayton Park. These suburbs allow students to experience a more rural lifestyle while still being a short bus ride from downtown.

Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia. It is an exciting, diverse city with the fastest-growing economy in Canada. Halifax's downtown is a bustling hub of commerce, education, and culture. Halifax is also home to four universities and the main campus of the 13-campused community college system.

As with all areas of Nova Scotia, people in Halifax are known for their friendly nature and natural ability to make you feel at home. Don’t be surprised if a stranger starts a conversation with you—the warmth of Nova Scotians shines through.

Throughout the year, there are many things to see and do in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
